LINEUP:
logfordata (Jean-François Blanquet [Projetsinge, Bruxelles])
LogforData is a sound performance composed from computer codes stored on magnetic tape. Some of the audio data also contain texts from secure conversations between several members of an IRC channel, and are decoded live on a video projection.
Jean-Francois Blanquet uses stacking, permutation, overflow and scrambling to rewrite the media at our disposal.
Tripping Through Runtime (Valentina Vuksic [Zurich])
Tripping Through Runtime is a live improvisation from the electrosmog of digital devices, played out by the execution of procedures stressing the system’s health checks via different combinations. Valentina Vuksic improvises with and from the electrosmog produced by standardized technologies.
Valentina Vuksic works on the self-referential loops of computer spaces and their intrinsic side-effects. Coming from a technical background, Valentina Vuksic turned to artistic practice as a possible technique for navigating the “infrastructures of abstraction”, taking their troublesome consequences as starting points and acting in a techno-intuitive way. The live improvisations “Tripping through runtime” focus on the physical presence of standardized technologies: electromagnetic fields provide a direct point of entry to computer activity through sound.
Attack me please at 2.432 GHz (b01xy [la Labomedia, Orléans])
Attack me please at 2.432 GHz is an audiovisual performance based on real-time sonification of human activity in the electromagnetic spectrum, particularly in the high frequencies. The massive use of wireless transmissions raises issues of public health, security and privacy. In a context of global surveillance, as the “Internet of Things” movement spreads connected devices across the planet, our personal data has never been so exposed. To guard against this, there’s the strategy of the attack, honeypot to attract pests and digital locksmith’s paraphernalia to open backdoors and build up zones of autonomy. Packets of possibly encrypted data encapsulated in a constellation of standardized protocols, it’s a whole electromagnetic bestary that gravitates daily around us in an invisible but audible world.
b01xy, a multimedia artist, lives and works as coordinator of Labomedia, a mediahackfablab. He has participated in a number of projects dealing with electromagnetic fields, data sonification, subjective approaches to cartography and our post-human future. He develops audiovisual performances and installations using “real-time” open-source software and electronic devices, attempting to weave links between art, hacktivism and contemporary issues.
